The Portuguese landscape at the Quinta da Monte d’Oiro is home to the Mediterranean climate and Atlantic influence whose identity is grounded by its locale characteristics of earthy minerals, hot summers, and rolling hills. A mixing of cultures gave birth to centuries old craftsmanship, process, and rigor found in wine making and construction. CONTEXT
and food industries have been disturbed by the rise of the COVID-19 pandemic (project submitted in July of 2020). In response, to knowledge that viral spread is significantly less outdoors and lessened indoors with use of enhanced ventilation, the project seeks to "open" to the outdoors as much as possible. This also aligns with Mediterranean traditions in such a temperate climate; air conditioning is a 60-year old invention in an place with traditions spanning thousands of years.
